Diaper Drive in Honor of National Diaper Need Awareness Week
DAYTONA BEACH, FL – This upcoming week, September 21 – 27, the Junior League of Daytona Beach is holding a diaper drive in honor of National Diaper Need Awareness Week.
The Junior League of Daytona Beach Diaper Bank began in 2014 with the purpose of providing diapers to families in need, within our community. After extensive research, we realized the void in our area and with the help of our community partners, we set out to establish the only diaper bank in Volusia County. The Junior League of Daytona Beach is the only diaper bank in the greater Daytona Beach area and has donated more than 300,000 diapers within the last two years.
The JLDB Diaper Bank partners with local non-profit agencies in the Daytona Beach and Flagler area to provide a reliable source of diapers and wipes. They are distributed directly to families that are in need.
Diaper need is the lack of a enough supply of diapers to help keep a baby or toddler clean, dry, and healthy, and is a recognized public health issue that impacts the physical, mental, and economic well-being of U.S. children and families. Diaper need can result from poverty, unexpected life hardships, natural disasters, and so much more. Diapers are a basic necessity for happiness, cleanliness and dignity.
5 Diaper Need Facts
- 1 in 3 American families report experiencing diaper need.
- Diapers cannot be obtained with food stamps.
- Disposable diapers cost $70 to $80 per month per baby.
- No state or federal child safety-net program allocates dollars specifically for the purchase of diapers.
- Families in need often don’t have the ability to have private laundry, which means cloth diapers are not an option for them.
The Junior League of Daytona Beach has set a goal to collect 10,000 diapers during this drive. To reach this goal the JLDB is asking for the entire community’s involvement.
